After you remove the plunger & spring from your slide, and remove the 2 actuating levers from your 1911 frame, you install this "shim" (Frame Slot Filler) (spacer plate) into the gap that the 2 removed actuating levers created; if you do not fill that gap, your sear will walk into that gap and lock your entire trigger mechanism.
